(AP) More New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made it clear on Sunday that head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan would remain with the team, but that doesnt mean there arent some significant changes coming to the Jets. On Tuesday, the team announced that 65-year old offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is retiring , and five coaches have been fired. It is not a surprise to some in Florham Park that Gailey is calling it a career; in a statement, Gailey said he informed Bowles before this season that it would be his last. I thought it was best to tell him early,so that he could begin to think about how he would move the team forward on offense, Gailey said. While we did not have the season we all wanted to have, I think there are some great people here at the Jets and in the New York/New Jersey area. I wish them all the best moving forward. A two-time NFL head coach, with the Dallas Cowboys (1998-99) and Buffalo Bills (2010-12), Gailey also served as offensive coordinator with the Chiefs, Dolphins and Steelers. In 2015, his first season with the Jets, he oversaw an offense that accumulated a franchise-record 5,925 yards and scored 387 points, the most for a Jets team since 1998. Im grateful to Chan for joining our coaching staff and enjoyed working with him, Bowles said. The respect that I have for him as a person and a coach only increased during our time together. Bowles released quarterbacks coach coach Kevin Patullo, running backs coach Marcel Shipp, defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, outside linebackers coach Mark Collins and defensive backs coach Joe Danna. All were among those he hired when he was named Jets head coach in 2015.
